at first, I was so in love I didn’t think about it: 4 poems photo

I CAME ACROSS A MAN IN THE WOODED PARK

it was only us, so I said good morning
as he, hand in plastic, knelt at the weedy altar
of his dog’s steaming shit and barely nodded
as if caught, or maybe embarrassed,
or somehow less.

THE BOYFRIEND HAD A STUFFED ANIMAL

a gray-furred harbor seal
he brought with us on vacations
positioned in various windows
so it could enjoy the view
and a voice he used for it to say things
at first, I was so in love I didn’t think about it

BODY LANGUAGE

He overlooked
her Texas-shaped birthmark
because he wanted to have sex
After, he pointed out Austin
then Lubbock

DEAD SEA

I floated skyward
I didn’t rub my eyes
still, there was so much salt
in so many wounds
