Seven Poems

Syncopate If You’re Happy
& You Know It a bit
& you can feel it: floodwater
Sloshing thru the aqueduct
That scene from Parasite
Where they run & run.
Before I edited it
The timestamp on this was
18:55
So I get Walt in here
For free. 18:56
I used to put discs
From the library
In machines with laser beams
& they would play
Schoenberg’s Kammersymphonie
For 15 solo instruments
The problem of politics:
Soloing
Together. Maybe everybody
Just has their patchwork map
Taped together along
The trajectory they took
Through this life
Basically non
Communicable, though we are
Sometimes called upon to try
By a friend who wants to die or
A child we aspire to
Be able to tell a nice story to
About how things hang together
Like revolutionaries
Or beautiful glass orbs
On a christmas tree,
Divorced from the savior
As such but not incurious
About Laruelle’s Future Christ
The ability to save
Maybe we all have
In the last instance
One second
Left on the microwave
Stop
Clear. I fear
My inability to continue
Working on a long poem
Is symptomatic of
Something, a struggling to
Adapt to life
’S various maintenances
Their incessant current
Breaking up the scum
On thought’s pond
Which is way too
Precious to say
But I’m keeping it
In. 18:50
The next day. Walt
En route, a long weekend
Starting, for three days I can
Drink & sleep, drink
& sleep. Time’s texture
Directly a function
Of hydration
& rest.
I think I need the flab
My suspicion of the 42
Page poetry collection
Necessity of bad crab
At the hot bar
Or a dog hair on the plate
Human excess
In the era of machine
Excess feels almost quaint
Sure, write a long poem
While you were, Claude was
Processing information
Akin to approximately
1 quadrillion words
While also rhyming
With god. The apple orchard’s
Drainage system refit for a pond
Sound of metal caroming down
A cliff. The bright deer, entirely low
Habit knitted together
Lattice of ass-ears
& aches. What is a notebook?
A photo album of the good
Memories you made
With language, high points
In your relationship.
Elio reminds me a notebook
Is a book, all the
Plenitude & doneness entailed
By that, being a poet
Requires a great tolerance
Of repetition
Like I’m trying to write this
Forward but still I’ve gone back
A hundred times
To the first line

Five Easy Pieces

Mental health, Goodwill
maybe a copy
of The Ambassadors
—that’d be a winning
lottery ticket
but still one I’d need
to buy. Coy pond,
hanging back
from the trees. Hardcover
of A Little Life. At least
he’s making movies,
god, instead of writing
another hotel book

The bitter shrike
butcherbird
better ready than me
for the world

the whole concept
of literature feeling
a little suspicious now
with the mouse

impaled
on his thorn

my soul isn’t
beautiful, no
but it is slow

\n

The two possums in love
are a projection I prefer
to the alternative
indifference
at the worm-heart of all things.
God’s sideways DVD release
threw off the soteriological
schedule. O, I’ve got nothing
going on, I’ll wait.

I thought you hired me
to end August
but that’s a solved problem
pickled watermelon rind

You meet someone
you love them
time passes

the village of your love
builds a clock tower
from straw

no one in the village can tell
time, except the shopkeeper
to whom you are in

incalculable debt

you tell them sorry, I don’t think
I can ever pay you back

& brick five free throws in a row

\n

when people say stuff like art
is the asymmetry
of effects
usually I go glassy

but this morning, a small bird
no bigger than a burger
skimmed the pond
barely

& clear
on the other side
of the water

a frog
leapt out

Poem

There will be a loss
Of detail, even as detail
Grows monstrously large &
Overtakes the resolution
Of things themselves

Things themselves will feel
Quaint & tired, curious
Like bowler hats. God
Wore one once, was
Photographed, & now

Instead of wearing one
Yourself you just look
At the picture.
We will forget
Why we needed

Education, but not
Gambling, sports,
Or gardens.
There will be an
Enlistment

The size of the mind,
Of thinking itself
& I’m sorry
To tell you
You’ve already signed

Up. You are a know
Ledge worker now
A data source
& of course
You can leave

Anytime
