This month sees publication of our newest print issue, Hobart #14. As such, and as we have done to accompany our last few print issues, we are devoting the entire month to various "bonus materials" -- photo essays, alternate endings, drawings, extra short fictions, interviews, & more!
Below is the beginning of Jayson Hawkins's story, "Fire! Fire! Fire!" included in Hobart 14.
Most days you come home, drop your backpack on the floor, reheat some pizza. Maybe sneak a beer. You make a half-assed attempt at homework before surrendering to MTV. It’s not like college is in your future.
Today, you don’t even bother with the schoolbooks. Skip the pizza. The beer, you take. Two of ‘em. Fuck Todd if he doesn’t like it. If he’s got a problem with you, he can go bang someone else’s mom. Dick.
Your show’s on. It’s a rerun, but you watch anyway. Butthead has smacked Beavis into genius mode, and he’s spouting some math formula about the angle of his hard-on. Fucking idiots. You haven’t taken geometry yet, but it’s still funny. It’s been a bad day. You need this.
