BISON cover letter PRIZE winner photo

This month sees publication of our newest print issue, Hobart #14. As such, and as we have done to accompany our last few print issues, we are devoting the entire month to various "bonus materials" -- photo essays, alternate endings, drawings, extra short fictions, interviews, & more!

Almost half of #14 is made up of the six BUFFALO Prize winning stories, each chosen by an SF/LD author. When we decided to run the contest, we also decided to have a "best cover letter" sub-contest (the BISON Prize), to make it interesting for both ourselves and those willing to give us some money to consider their stories. Below is the BISON Prize winner.

Dear Hobart,

Contests are good if you really think about it. I like how you have six winners. The more winners, the better. Many summers ago Blockbuster video had a contest where you could rent three VHS movies for five dollars, as long as they were not new releases. The thing was that everyone was a winner of the contest because everyone got to do the 3/5 deal. I rode my bike to Blockbuster and rented The Punisher (with Dolph Lundgren, this version was not sanctioned by Marvel, so he didn't get to wear the skull t-shirt), Speed 2, and a movie starring James Spader, the name of which I cannot recall. I gave all three movies three and one-half stars.

Guess you could say it was a good weekend, and a good summer.

Sincerely,
Andrew
