the day i went to kroger to steal shampoo

Chris Barton

the day i went to kroger to steal shampoo photo

it rained lightly then was very warm
on the bridge i felt connected to the traffic
intimately in an indiscernible way
this caused the absurd distance in september
an amorphous cookie cutter space
i filled like a shirt in a future that i arranged
on a blank screen a yellow leaf on top
of a puddle— behind your forehead—
where you felt a certain way, or didn't—
and i stood against the hand rail thinking
this would happen— like a memory— holding
my cellphone— somehow, something like that
