the panic room

Yes this will be a biased review. Yes this will not be a fair presentation of facts, worldly knowledge, and other mixed media wrought with intelligent conversation comparing plot synopsis to Jody Foster's sweaty breasts. This will be a review of absurd quality because I like David Fincher. Let me explain something to you: the man cannot make a bad movie. Once you have all gotten your heads out of your asses and have figured that out, then watching anything he directs should not be a problem for you. Now let me explain why the meek, such as you, should worship Fincher's god-like prowess:

1)His major inspiration came from watching "The Empire Strikes Back". George Lucas was his hero. Do I need to go on?
b) Before directing movies, he directed music videos. Six of them have made MTVs top 100 list. Old-skewl MTV, not the new crap that is out now.
5) He made his directorial debut with Alien 3. Though it was not the best of films, I have to say that it's an impressive start for any director, to be able to do one of the Alien movies. And I still liked it better then the 4th Alien, which should die and go to hell for ever thinking Winona Ryder could have done well in that kind of film. Since Alien 3 he has gone on to direct "Seven", "The Game", and last but not least "Fight Club", which any schmuck knows is one of the best movies ever made.

And now, low and behold, this gem appears, "Panic Room". This movie is excellent. It has all the right elements of a great suspense flick: single wife and cute daughter (Foster and newcomer Kristen Stewart) alone in a giant New York house, a high security room called the panic room with a strange secret, and three unlikely bad guys who want what's in the room. Cast Forest Whitaker as the bad guy who has a big heart, Jared Leto as the hot but feisty (not to mention stupid) bad guy, and Dwight Yoakam as that asshole that just won't die and you've got an amazing team of jerks to make the plot complicated enough to keep you interested. And as usual, Fincher uses his concept of previsualization to take the eye of the viewer into some spectacular places throughout the film. Now that the technology is out there, Fincher uses it to his full advantage, bringing forth a whole new genre of entertainment. His awesome visual insights help to unfold a better tale and make a 4-story house an exciting place to capture it, rather then the same old, tired redundancy found in a lot of films like it. What, then, do we call this new and exciting genre of film? Eye-candy? Post-post modern film? Run-of-the-mill thriller/suspense? No! I look at these films and only see the fresh integrity of one man: David Fincher. The man IS a genre. That's it, period. Watch "Panic Room". And like it. And if you don't, well, then I hope the smell up your ass is refreshing because you might be there longer then expected.
